About the event
This two-day course provides an overview of the essential components of a Field Training Program (FTP) and the responsibilities of a Field Training Officer (FTO). Day 1 focuses on understanding the goals of FTP, the roles of FTOs and FTP-SAC, and the importance of communication and adult learning styles in effective training. Leadership principles and program structure are introduced to support successful coordination and oversight. Day 2 addresses the practical requirements for developing and maintaining an FTP, including creating training manuals, organizing forms and documents, and ensuring accurate record-keeping. Key topics include FTO selection, documentation of trainee performance, and retention of training records, which form the foundation for a trainee’s law enforcement career.
