About the event
This course equips officers with a clear understanding of the Constitutional, both Federal and Maine, requirements during daily citizen encounters. Designed from both academic and practical perspectives, it explores critical legal concepts such as reasonable suspicion, probable cause, and warrant exceptions. Emphasis is placed on avoiding legal missteps that can lead to inadmissible evidence or personal liability. Using real-world examples and Maine case law, students will build confidence in making constitutionally sound decisions in the field. This class addresses law enforcement interaction with civilians outside of those searches and seizures supported by a warrant.
