Date & Time: Thursday, December 12, 2025, 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM ET Register HERE. Cannabis Use Disorder: Prevention and Treatment

Event Description: Cannabis is one of the most commonly used substances in the United States, and while often perceived as low risk, use can lead to the development of cannabis use disorder (CUD). CUD can affect brain function, behavior, and overall health, with adolescents and young adults particularly at risk. Despite its prevalence, effective prevention and treatment strategies for CUD are less well-known than those for other substance use disorders.

This webinar from the Addiction Policy Forum will provide a comprehensive overview of CUD, including its neurobiology, risk factors, and intersections with other substance use disorders. Participants will learn about evidence-based prevention and treatment strategies aimed at reducing initiation, mitigating harms, and improving health outcomes. The session will also highlight available resources and best practices to support individuals and families impacted by cannabis use.

Intended Audience: Healthcare providers, prevention and behavioral health professionals, educators, policymakers, and community stakeholders interested in understanding and addressing cannabis use disorder.

Learning Objectives: By the end of the webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the neurobiology and risk factors associated with cannabis use disorder.

  • Identify evidence-based prevention strategies to reduce cannabis initiation and related harms.

  • Apply treatment approaches to support individuals affected by CUD.

  • Access resources and best practices for supporting individuals and families impacted by cannabis use.

Speakers:

  • Dr. Redonna Chandler – Former Director of the HIV Research Program (HRP), National Institute on Drug Abuse.

  • Dr. Bonnie Halpern-Felsher – Professor of Pediatrics, Stanford Medicine.

  • Dr. Frances Levin – Professor of Psychiatry and Chief of the Division on Substance Use Disorders, Columbia University.

Why Attend: This webinar offers an evidence-based, expert-led exploration of cannabis use disorder, providing practical knowledge for prevention, intervention, and treatment to improve outcomes for individuals, families, and communities.
