MLEAP Standard: 3.16 Background Investigator Training

This comprehensive course equips law enforcement professionals and hiring personnel with the essential knowledge and skills to conduct thorough, legally sound background investigations for police candidates. Participants will explore the purpose and legal framework governing background checks, and learn to navigate standard procedures, documentation, and investigative techniques. The course emphasizes identifying red flags and disqualifying factors, with a special focus on analyzing social media content and recognizing problematic online behavior. Learners will gain practical experience in compiling background findings into professional, ethical, and legally defensible reports. By the end of the course, participants will be prepared to conduct high-quality investigations that uphold the integrity of the hiring process and public trust.
