Supervising a drug unit is one of the most challenging positions within a police department. All too often, newly promoted supervisors are placed in these positions with very little training or knowledge regarding undercover operations.

This course is designed to motivate and empower the student supervisor to effectively and safely supervise narcotic units. Information will be presented to address organization, financial disbursements, personnel selection, political issues, and common problems that arise during narcotic assignments like evidence accountability, asset forfeiture, and other legal and liability issues.

Across the United States, there have been dozens of informant scandals that have ruined the careers of both undercover officers and supervisors over the unit. In many cases, as the narcotic units were disbanded due to the informant scandal. Up-to-date information will be presented on proper informant documentation and management to help minimize the inherent risks associated with deploying informants.

Narcotic operations have the potential to erupt in violence at any given moment. Information will also be presented on methods of minimizing risks associated with undercover operations. Tactical operational planning, crisis management, raid execution, buy/bust dangers, as well as undercover officer rescues will be covered.
